What is SpongeBob’s race?
People who like Spongebob Squarepants tell others to Google “what race is Spongebob” because the results are hard to understand.
SpongeBob, who was supposedly born in July 1986, first appeared on screen in the first episode of the show, Help Wanted, which aired in 1999.
Spongebob, the star of the show, is a sea sponge. Patrick the starfish and Squidward the squid are two of the other characters.
The Sun says that the theme song for the show mentions SpongeBob SquarePants eight times, which is pretty cool considering how short the song is.
Google’s top search result is a Medium post that looks at the “ethnic identities” of the show’s characters.
What is SpongeBob’s race?
Spongebob is both an inanimate object and a cartoon character, so it’s clear that he doesn’t have a race.
In an article by Medium, the popular cartoon character is still called “a light-skinned black character who may be able to pass as white in some situations.”
A SpongeBob Fandom website says that the characters in the show are Polynesian because Bikini Bottom is under Bikini Atoll. A coral reef is on Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Ezer says Spongebob is black, while Patrick is white and the bad guy, Plankton, is from Latin America.
The author goes on to say that Spongebob almost meets the “first condition for a black cartoon character.”
The same report says that Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants is Jewish and that he “ran away from his segregated town to live in Bikini Bottom and make it as an artist.”
