Whether you’re getting ready for work, going out on the town, or just lounging at home, it’s essential to know how to clean Invisalign aligners.
Invisible braces have changed the dental industry and for a good reason. Once you get your invisible braces, you shouldn’t notice any changes to your appearance. Before this, many patients perceived invisible braces as a garnish accessory that drew extra attention to their teeth.
However, invisible braces can have some minor annoyances. You may know how to clean Invisalign aligners. Depending on your brand of invisible braces, you may have to clean them a little more or a little less often than you’re used to.
Toothbrush
Start by brushing the aligners with regular toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush, then rinse the brush and aligners with lukewarm water. Ensure the toothbrush has no stiff bristles that could scratch the plastic.
Brush the aligners for two to three minutes until they are free of plaque and debris. Then rinse the aligners and toothbrush with lukewarm water. Dry them with a clean cloth or tissue and place the aligners back into your mouth. Once a week, you can use whitening toothpaste.
Distilled White Vinegar
To begin the cleaning process, pour a capful of the vinegar into a bowl and fill it with warm water. Add the Invisalign aligners and allow them to soak for about fifteen minutes. It will help to remove any plaque buildup and any accumulated odor-causing bacteria.
After the aligners have soaked, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to scrub away any stubborn plaque residue. When finished, rinse them with warm water and dry them thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. This method should be done at least once every couple of weeks to ensure the aligners are adequately cleaned and sanitized.
Ultrasonic Cleaner
Fill the tank with a unique solution formulated for clean Invisalign aligners, place the aligners into the basket, set the desired temperature, and let the cleaner do its work. The ultrasonic energy waves produced by the cleaner remove bacteria, food particles, and other debris from aligners.
Periodically empty the cleaner and replace the solution to maintain the cleaning power of the answer. To find a dentist around me who offers an ultrasonic cleaner, look up all the local dentists and ask if they provide this service.
Hydrogen Peroxide
Invisalign aligners are designed to be worn for a minimum of twenty-two hours each day and can be worn for up to twenty-four hours for optimal treatment. Hydrogen peroxide is an excellent option for cleaning Invisalign aligners, as it is non-toxic and safe.
Start by rinsing the aligners with hot water and then placing them in a cup of hydrogen peroxide. Allow the aligners to sit in the solution for approximately five to ten minutes. Once they have finished soaking, brush them gently with a toothbrush to remove any plaque on the aligners, and rinse again with hot water.
